Duke
Dominator 39

Designed by the renowned Raymond Hunt of Bertram fame and the mastermind behind the deep-vee hull, this Dominator was built in Australia, launched in the early 1990s and repowered and extended to 42 feet LOA in 2000.

12.93m LOA 4.06m Beam 0.911m Draft.

Very similar to a Riviera 39 just a touch smaller all round with a lower quality fit out - but 1/3 of the price.

Or more similar to a Caribbean / Bertram 35, with more length in the Saloon area and slightly better spec.

Scott White, Broker - “Its alot of boat for the money”

Ownership Costs - $12k - $16k per annum in total.

  • Berth rental - $6000 p.a (approx)

  • Insurance - $3148 p.a

  • Engine Service - $4500 p.a (approx half if servicing ourselves)

With a berth in Sulphur Point Marina, running costs come to a bare minimum of $12k a year with self service, but more likely $16k with outsourced service and to take into account things that don’t need to be replaced each year like clears, antifoul etc…

Possible ownership & running cost structures:

50% Buy in, 50% running costs.

  • 50% use time

  • Everything is shared equally

33% Buy in, 50% running costs:

  • Allows a lower cost of entry to the boat to make the deal viable

  • 50% use time can still apply

  • Some allowance to the greater shareholder such as they get their extra 33% share back when boat is sold, then the remaining 67% is split 33/67%

  • or some allowance where some of the fixed costs are born by the smaller shareholder, such as the insurance or Marina OPEX,

  • Something for both parities to agree upon on what would work best.

What boats can you get for similar money in the $150-180K range:

Bertram 35 mii $155k pretty run down, no comparison really

Bertram 35 $195k better maintained than one above

Bertram 35 “Notorious II: $250k . Seen in person, not as nice as Duke by far and this is the best Bertram 35 on the market! more of a just gamefishing, not as family orientated. low bow, low quality rails all round, Caribbean much better.

Caribbean 32 $171k “The Weapon” much smaller. *a Caribean 35 is more comparable and much nicer than a Bertram 35.

Silverton 42 $210K big volume, bit frumpy and layout not quite right, high sides in salon but alot of boat, built for a price., not quite a Bertram , Riviera etc…

Oliver 3600 $170k- has that oldschool flybridge, downstairs helm, V berth bow style of the time. looks wooden.

Riviera 33 $160k very small in comparison. even Riv 37 is smaller cockpit than Duke

Vindex 42 $180k Tidy nice well maintained boat, alot of boat, smaller cockpit and oldschool flybridge.

A new Haines Hunter 660 hardtop now costs $190K

Most comparable boats can be found in the $200-$300K range, with adjustments for size & fit out quality.

Caribbean 35 - $299k seems the most comparable boat for boat, Duke has more length in the saloon area and more water line length under the duckboard, making it a 39ft water line length boat.
